We always fear some of our emotions- most of them being negative ones like pain, anger, fear sadness. We try to tune them out but still feel them. It is preferable to be numb rather than feel the pain. Defense mechanisms may be created to protect us but they can go on to hurt us in the future.

We can all learn to increase our tolerance for emotions. Being able to feel these emotions actually makes us stronger and more resilient. Accepting negative emotions is very different from allowing them to rule our behaviour. It is possible to feel these emotions without breaking in two.

Dr. Greenberg and his Webinar ‘Importance of Emotion in Therapy’ helps people learn to neither deny their emotions nor feed them until they feel overpowering.
