Since the beginning of the life, human being is exposed to a series of stimuli that favor their learning, when it is a baby all the time receives parental love through kissing, caressing, pampering. In this time period, both parents and educators show special interest in which it recognizes the different emotions, principally the love.

But, what is the Love an emotion or a feeling?

First there would be necessary to define which the difference is. An emotion, is considered a “complex set of chemical and neuronal responses that form a distinctive pattern”, while the feeling refers to the “assessment of conscious perception of our body state during an emotional response”. Monge,S .(2009).Diferencia entre emoción y sentimiento.[Online] September 2nd 2009.

Ekman, P. (1972) has recognized six basic emotions Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust and Surprise. Ekman, P.(1999.) Handbook of Condition and Emotion. Edited by T. Daigleish and M. Power: John Wiley and Sons Ltd.

However more recent studies summarized them in only four Happiness, Sadness, Anger and Fear. Rachael E. Jack, Oliver G.B. Garrod, Philippe G. Schyns (2014). Dynamic Facial Expressions of Emotion Transmit an Evolving Hierarchy of Signals over TimeCurrent Biology. [Online] (24) p.187-192.

Then, where is the Love?

Love is a feeling associated to Happiness. For many years the heart has been viewed as a receiving and dispatching organ of feelings, today the studies reveal that emotions are located in the brain, in fact it has been able to detect the specific areas that are stimulated in the presence of love: The Striatum and Insula. Curiously, the same are activated with the sexual desire. Stephanie Cacioppo, Francesco Bianchi-Demicheli, Chris Frum, James G. Pfaus, James W. Lewis (2012). The Common Neural Bases Between Sexual Desire and Love: A Multilevel Kernel Density fMRI Analysis. The Journal of Sexual Medicine. [Online] 9 (4): 1048
